Wikipedia states that the strategic rationale of competitor profiling is powerfully simple. Superior knowledge of rivals offers a legitimate source of competitive advantage. The raw material of competitive advantage consists of offering superior customer value in the firm’s chosen market. As such, competitor profiling delivers some key outcomes for the strategic professional.
First, it reveals strategic weaknesses in rivals that the firm may exploit. Second, it will allow the firm to anticipate the strategic response of their rivals to the firm’s planned strategies, the strategies of other competing firms, and changes in the environment. Third, this proactive knowledge will give the firm strategic agility.In today's complex, competitive environments, it is important to be one step ahead of the competition while maintaining the firm's competitive advantage. Undertaking systematic and advanced competitor profiling does provide a significant advantage – in fact today a comprehensive profiling capability is rapidly becoming a core competence required for successful competition. Different analytical techniques make up competitor profiling and this workshop will explore a number of these tools. One dimension includes understanding the leadership's personality profile and we will briefly look at the essence of Personality Type theory as a powerful tool for delivering insights into future competitor behaviour. Your learning experience covers:
- The MBTI framework for exploring personality types
- Which data do you need to include in your profile?
- Discovering available primary and secondary research sources and techniques;
- A review of a number of competitor analytical techniques;
- Learning to maintain focus and create intelligence;
